Thanks .... I have Ancestry, but not the version that includes US and Canada records !    Fancy him going from staionery clerk, to farmer, to music teacher ! 

I know the Canadian censuses are online somewhere .... I'll find them !

I've searched 'Automated Genealogy' online, but can't find James John (John James) WITH an occupation.   I've found him and his family on the 1911 .... its the transcribed version.

4 years ago today my uncle Dennis died aged 85, two days after my mother, his sister in law. When we were clearing out her house I found 20 letters that Dennis had written in World War two to his sister. He was stationed in India and Ceylon (Sri Lanka) for about 4 years at the time and the letters are full of descriptions of the country and how they spent their leave. They also mention things that he had been told were happening at home including my parents' engagement and wedding. They make fascinating reading and I have transcribed them for the family.

He emigrated to Canada as a stationery clerk; then became a farmer; then a music teacher !   Quite a change of occupation over the years.
