yesterday I deliberatly read a post from unread with a time on it of 18-30 on the then page 4 of unread, I actually read it a few mins before I posted yesterday evening at 21-50, today my 5 pages go back to 18-50 yesterday, although I;ve been out all today,

I read a few unreads later than the 18-30 one, but none earlier

Everything seems to be normal again here too.  Opened up RC this morning and found only 4 pages unread.  So, unless or until it all goes haywire again I'll just go sit quietly in my corner and watch.   ;)

I've been logging out between visits more regularly than I used to, I go to reply to posts first then scan through the unread posts. Depending on length of absence there can be many many pages, if I log out and in again quickly for any reason, I may lose all or most of the unread but often I'm surprised there's a couple of pages and it's probably how quickly the posts are coming in but as Bob mentioned, it's not really unusual to have more than what have just arrived since I was in earlier in the day for example. During the quieter times it does seem to clear the unread quicker, or if I'm in and out frequently over a shorter period they clear. Not very specific with times and dates, just observation  :)

Just logged in for the second time today. The earliest unread post on my list is yesterday 15:23. I logged out this morning at 10:04, cleared all cookies etc, but the unread list is still going back to yesterday's log off. Is it being reset overnight perhaps, rather than each time we log out?
