MyHeritage Special Offer
« on: Monday 07 January 13 19:14 GMT (UK) »
Hi :)

Happy New Year everyone! :)

I have recently received some e-mails, from familytreedna.com, stating:

'Family Tree DNA and MyHeritage are now teaming up to offer you a unique, limited time only discount on access to more than 4 billion historical records in MyHeritage’s specialized historical records collection - SuperSearch.'

The price until 14th January is £43.94 (or $69.95) for 14 months.

This sounds like a very good deal, but will I get the same service / records / etc as I get from Amazon?

I read that My Heritage don't have their own access to records. Is that true? If so, how can they offer this service? ???

I'm confused, so I would appreciate any thoughts on the subject, please. :-\

Thanks in advance for any clarification! :)

I don't know about this offer but I'm generally unimpressed with My Heritage in general. I joined for free but they soon made it a pay site and - even though my tree is not that large, it's too large to be covered by the standard membership offer and I'd have to choose some premium deal just to keep my existing tree.

Moreover, their Smart Matches are anything but. I've complained about Genes Reunite's Hot Matches throwing up unlikely people (born on the wrong continent, for example) but that's nothing to Smart Matches which will give you people born the wrong year, with the wrong forenames and/or a slightly different surname!

For instance, somebody has just confirmed a match between my Ada Amelia Goode born 1889 Lillington, Warwickshire, married a Skelcey thereabouts, with her Ada Emily Goode born 1889 Australia, married a Larkens there. And there's no way I can point out the anomaly without joining the site! (I put this here on the off chance that she sees it.)
Skelcey (Skelsey Skelcy Skeley Shelsey Kelcy Skelcher) - Warks, Yorks, Lancs
Hancox - Warks
Green - Warks
Draper - Warks
Lynes - Warks
Hudson - Warks
Morris - Denbs Mont Salop
Davies - Cheshire, North Wales
Fellowes - Cheshire, Denbighshire
Owens - Cheshire/North Wales
Hicks - Cornwall
Lloyd and Jones (Mont)
Rhys/Rees (Mont)
