The only thing i know about him is what is on the 1861 census at Sheep St in central  Birmingham when he is living with Joseph and Susannah .
Joseph is born Darlaston Staffs abt 1814 and there are gun forgers there named Whitehouse wich might be a clue .
In 1841 Joseph and Susanna are in Birmingham ,  Bruerton/Brueton is transcribed as Burton on Ans*ty. Josephs occ is "iron bedstead maker" (this could have been linked to a business "iron ???? reformer"  according to family)  .  HO107/ 1148/ 10/ 33

Will try find bit more info today .
Ta for help :)

When I looked at this I saw it as "serv" rather than son.If he was a son he would be next after Susannah & then the others, instead he's last where a servant would be listed.
Have you discounted this one:
1851/B'ham
James Whitehouse/40
Ann Whitehouse/32
Emma Whitehouse/12
Thomas Whitehouse/7
Lear Whitehouse/7
John Whitehouse/3
HO107; Piece: 2061; Folio: 35; Page: 17
Here are 2 more servants a couple of pages away & as you can see they're identical to Thomas.

Here are the other sons on the same page .Thomas is the one under nephew.

Hi again, now I have seen it in a magnified form, I must admit their does seem to be a pronounced "tick" to signify a V rather than an N but I have been proved wrong before, hope it gets sorted for you though!

Yes i think you are right about the "tick" keyboard and also jim made a very good point about where Thomas is in the list .
So looking more like "serv" then we think  :)

Yes, if you look at the "o" in son the stroke comes from the top of the "o" to the next letter whereas for Thomas the stroke comes from the "o" or "e" at the bottom to go to the next letter hence more like an "e" for "serv" if that makes sense.

Sally, yes, you are quite right, it was the 1861 census I was referring to not the 1851 as in my previous post ......... sorry about that :-\
