Sarah Ives - George Harwood. 1866 - St Albans marriage.
« on: Thursday 10 January 13 03:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi folks.   Has anyone access to Christchurch, St Albans Pr's, for a peek at this marriage.

6 June 1866.  Sarah Ives(aged 41),(Father, John Ives)), George Harwood(aged 46),(Father, Uriel Harwood)).

Can't find George Harwood in census, but Sarah Harwood(nee. Ives) was easy. ::)

Would like to find out his occupation, which may help track him down.

No place of birth for George Harwood, just his approx. age.(y.o.b 1820/1)  Never found them together, even though Sarah appears to be still married in 1871 census.

Sarah Ives c1825[1830], Abbots Langley, Herts.    Mother, Ann Ives(nee.Boug) b.1788, Great Missenden, Bucks.

Thanks folks.

Steve. :)

I have found Marriage details.  But they do not tell you George Occupation

Details as follows.

George Harwood.  aged 46years.    Father's Name. Uriel Harwood.
Spouse. Sarah Ives. aged 40.    Father's Name     John Ives.
Marriage date.  9 June 1866.  Saint Albans.Hertfordshire   England

I have found  A George Harwood. Census 1841.  aged  19. Living with Mother
Sarah aged 50.  Sons. John. aged 27.   Ag.Labourer.  George  19. Daughters. Elizabeth 16. Susan. 12. Emma  10.  I found same Family on 1851. But George was missing.   But a George did appear on 1851 aged  30. with Wife  aged 19.  Son  1yr. Still in Colthall Herfordshire  where  all the Family
were Born.  40 seems to be  old for first marriage  so it may be him. no joy  with any other
census. sorry I could not help further

Thanks for all your efforts folks.   I think he'll remain a bit of a small mystery.   As they had no issue, I think I'll put this to rest now. ;)

Thanks again for the help.

I think this George previously married to Ann is indeed your man.

In 1861 would appear Ann has died (possibly 1858 Warwick) and he is shown with a new wife considerably older than him - an Eliza bc.1801 Preston, Warks - ref Rg9 - 2226 - 102 - 11

He's still alive in 1871 but back in Warwick on his own - lodging - but shown as married - ref. RG10 - 3201 - 42 - 27.

His occupation in 1861 and 1871 is Upholsterer.

Looks like he could have died in Warwick 1876.

Parish records online only seem to show one candidate for his father Uriel - b.13/12/1759, bp.13/1/1760 St. Peter Leeds (, and bur.25/6/1831 Priors Marston (aged at death gives ca.1757 birthdate).

Uriel married an Elizabeth Garnett 14/8/1786 St. Peter, Leeds and one would assume she must have died and he remarried to an Ann.  They had a number of children in Priors Marston but 2 children baptised together 23/4/1800 Mountsorrel, Leicester.

Thanks for that Annette. That's good news!

I didn't see him in 1871- he is listed as Henwood.

There is quite a bit to be found about Reverend Uriel Harwood but I couldn't match a baptism to him as father of George.

Just found George's baptism on familysearch:

George Harwoode bp.7/7/1817 Priors Marston, son 'Urich' and Ann
also
Emilia Harwoode bp.30/1/1816 Priors Marston, dau. 'Urice' and Ann.

Others under Harwood with parents correctly as Uriel and Ann being:

Robert Smith b.19/1/1804, bp.18/6/1804
Charles b.9/3/1806, bp.26/3/1806
Anne bp.6/8/1808
Maria b.14/4/1812, bp.14/3/1816(?)
Alfred bp.1/8/1820

(plus there were Henry and John both baptised 28/4/1800 Mountsorrel, Leicester).
