Sailing to Canada 1901-1909
« on: Thursday 10 January 13 11:22 GMT (UK) »

I would like help in finding out information on a Harry Charles Booth born 1882 in Guildford, Surrey.

When did he sail to Canada? name of boat? What ports?

I know that he married a Julia Lydia Campbell in 1909 in Saskatchewen.

Thanks from Enots.

Hi,

I can see an HC Booth sailing from Liverpool to Halifax, Canada in 1903; occupation given as labourer.    Sailing on the Numidian.    :-\

You can search for Harry (Henry?) and Julia in the 1911 Canada census for free at this link. Click on split view at the top of the transcription page to see the original image which provides more info than the transcription page does, such as year of immigration. You can also look for Harry in the 1906 census at this website.

You're very welcome.

The 1921 Canada census is due to be released this year so this may be of further help to you.

1921 Canadian census would also be very useful to me; have a few branches that emigrated.   Thanks for the news PB.   :)

The incoming Canadian passenger list also has him as H.C. Booth. He arrived in Halifax on 9 Apr 1903. His destination was listed as Winnipeg, Manitoba. Also there was a person travelling with him who was listed as H. Charman who was also going to Winnipeg. Both men were listed as 21 years old and born in Surrey. H.C. Booth's occupation was listed as paperhanger.

From checking the 1901 England census I see there is a Henry Charman in Stoke Within, Surrey who was born in Guildford, Surrey which I see is the same residence and birth place listed for Harry C. Booth on that census.

Hopefully this will help you with identifying whether the H.C. Booth on the Numidian was the correct person.
