James Mangan
« on: Friday 11 January 13 10:00 GMT (UK) »
Hi I am looking for any assistance in locating James Mangan born 1901 in Co Clare Ireland, Not sure when went to USA . His mother was Eliza Purtill . I know nothing else of him.   He is believed to have gone to USA and may have worked at Macys. I did come across a later record of a James M Mangan flying to Shannon in 1953 but am not sure if it refers to the same person. Is it possible to find anything on employee records?
Thanks

Hi Clarah,

There are a few James Mangan in New York that might fit the bill, have you an exact date of birth which would help ?
Presume this is the family in Cross Beg (Kilmurry, Clare) in 1911 ?

Looks as if he immigrated through Canada. Detroit Border Crossing -  James Mangan born about 1901 Kalmurry McMokon Py Clare (should be Kilmurry) Aged 25 years and 11 months. Had lived in Windsor Ontario. Had originally landed in Canada August 21 st 1926 on the Celtic.
Port of Arrival: Detroit, Michigan 16 March 1927. Destination:- California
Departure Contact: Mother Eliza Rosbell (Very blotchy but probably Petril)
Arrival Contact: Cousin John Orourke. 622 - 27 Ave San Francisco California.

Hi Sandra, That is the correct census and the Kilmurry Mc Mahon link is correct. He has been eluding me for some time. Cider drinker, will check that out too with rest of information. Thanks you both!

Couldn't see him listed on the Social Security Death Index  so far, index was up and running by 1962.  So either he died before that date or perhaps returned to Ireland ?
