Bovevagh Presbyterian Church
« on: Monday 14 January 13 21:14 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know if the original church registers for Bovevagh Presbyterian are held at Bovevagh? Is the church still active or has it united with another congregation? Thanks

I think the church is still open to this day. But in any event there is a copy of the church records in PRONI, Belfast.

Hi,
Bovevagh Presbyterian Church is still active. I think that official BMDs start about 1827 but there is a Committee Minute book which records some BMds from about 1817. This is held in local custody and I am not sure if it has been microfilmed.

Regards

Edit:  Ignore the D in BMDs - Presbyterians do not record Ds

Here's a list of the microfilmed records at PRONI-
http://www.presbyterianireland.org/about/records.html

Coleraine Library will have same holdings (box 75- not sure if all are on this reel but there's a complete list in file on top of microfilm cabinet and staff are very helpful- best to book a reader ahead)
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks - I need to check the original register to confirm an entry [I have viewed the 'transcript' copy on microfilm in PRONI]. Would you know the name of the minister?

According to this contact list, it's a Rev. John Noble of Balteagh and Bovevagh:
