WW1 solider - Wally EVANS of Melbourne area.
« on: Sunday 20 January 13 10:04 GMT (UK) »
While recently compiling some family photos for my DiL (complements of her Grandmother) I happened on a photo of one Wally EVANS.  Apparently he had been engaged for a short time to one Eileen Freestone.
If he is an ancestor of yours I am happy to send you a copy of this photo.

Here are three possible candidates.

Cpl  Walter Francis  Evans    Mounted Division  Train enlisted  17/11/1914   Returned to  Australia
25/9/1919     6

Cpl    WAlter Eric  Evans   Ist Field Ambulance Brigade    Enlisted  25/8/1914   Died   26/6/1915.
Possibly on Gallipoli    289

Pvt   Walter  Allen  Enlisted  8/8/1916  Rta  24/7/1919  29268

Tried Aif project but being upgraded.  That will give  information on  date and place of  birth,
profession and next of kin  Hope this helps someone

Thank you for that narrowing of possibilities, all I can hope for is someone working on their tree and makes the connection via this post.

Aby,
Now that the AIF project is back on line  the following information is  available .  There are in
fact 17 soldiers  named as Walter Evans.  But there are only three from Victoria.

Walter Francis Evans.  B 1891  of  No 8 Park avenue Glen Huntly  Victoria.  Enlisted  11/0/1914
returned  25/9/1919  NOK  Mre J P Skardon  of same address.

Walter Qwens Evans   B  1894  of Booth St Golden Sqr,  Bendigo  Enlisted  18/8/1914  returned
19/10/1917    2nd Field Ambulance    NOK   Edith Evans  of same address

Walter Leonard Evans    B   1894  of 96  Railway Place  Williamstown.  Enlisted   21/2/1916
returned  12/7/1919 10 th  Field Artillery  Brigade.  NOK  George Henry  Evans  father.
There was a brother Edwin George who enlisted on the same day, served in the same unit
and returned on 12/12/1918.
Lets hope  a family member sees this.

Hi,

I think only members of the Australian Flying Corps wore forage caps with a rising sun badge about 1/3-1/2 way down the side near the top.

Thank you Gerry,
I think I may need to do some serious research into the possible identity of 'my' Wally EVANS to see what extra information I can turn up about him.
