Research Swap Shop, anyone?
« on: Saturday 04 June 05 02:33 BST (UK) »
OK... I posted this idea in a tucked-away thread, and thought I'd open it up in here.

How about a scheme where folk trade time in Record Offices/libraries... even graveyards.

eg... if I wanted a one-off search done on a certain parish for a specified time period, I could post a request for anyone in that area to do it for me who happened to need the same service in Liverpool Record Office... and we'd do a one-off trade.

If I felt I needed a lot of research done in one area, and found someone there who needed the same in Liverpool, then we could establish a partnership or "Research Buddy" system.

Anyone like the idea?

I'll start the ball rolling... I could really use some on-the-spot research in Norfolk (Thelton/Thelveton parish) if anyone there has a use for a Liverpool search.

like the idea?

I think this is a fab idea!!  Do you know how diifcult it is to get Barnsley info when you're in Scotland??  I'd went all the way down for a funeral and thought I'd nip into the library for a bit of research while I was down and the lady was so rude to me!!  Told me it was the family history society time and I couldn't get in!!

I am desperate for someone to check out some Barnsley info for me and happy to trade some Perthshire (or even Angus) info to get it....

And is there somewhere on here you can ask for an obscure thing to be checked out at Kew.....

Impi, sounds o.k to me bearing in mind the Amin;opinion, also the fact that you may be marooned in L.R.Owith no time for your own research.
Pity I'm in Sth Aus!!!

I like the idea.  I travel to Norfolk quite abit for work so let me know where this place is and what you need...its bound to be on the way to somewhere!
Dont need Liverpool, Wrexham is the nearest I get to you!

I posted the suggestion on a Canadian mailing list asking for help in Canada in return for my help with their UK ancestors- got no takers

Great idea!

I go to Anglesey quite often so have plenty of chances to search through records in Llangefni.

Never get the chance to get to Liverpool, Scotland or Northumberland though. I am in Blackpool.

Terrific idea, except I'm in Ecuador.  But, just in case, I'll trade help in Ecuador for help in Bristol.
