joan hood (need help)
« on: Tuesday 22 January 13 12:56 GMT (UK) »
Hi all.
I am afraid I do not have a lot of info but am looking for the birth of Joan Hood born Dumbartonshire in 1922. I am looking for her parents as she came to Australia (do not know year) and got married here. Any help would be most appreciated Thank you.

Have you tried Scotland's People?

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/welcome.aspx

I'm not sure what you get after 1910, but it's worth a look.

I searched Joan Hood 1922-1923  and there is one match.  Maybe she's yours.

Hi Sue ,

Birth records after 1911 are not available online at SP , although it's free to sign up and search the indexes.
There is 1 match in Bonhill Dunbartonshire in 1921.
Would her marriage or death record give you her parents names  :-\

Even if you ordered the birth certificate how could you be sure it is the correct one ?

ev's right.   What you need first is the marriage certificate for the name of her father, and also it should have his occupation.

Scotland's People has online certificates up to 1910, after then you need to order them.   The rest of the UK always has to order them.

There is nothing else online but the registration information.

There is a marriage in Bonhill Dunbarton in 1915 , Claude MacDonald Hood / Isabella Newton.

There is a death for a Claude Knox MacDonald Hood 1947 on the Queensland BMD's
Parents George Jamieson Hood / Jean McDonald
SP has a Claud Knox McDo(as much as can be entered) Hood birth 1875 Lanark

In 1926 there is an Isabella Hood(born c1892) going to Brisbane , possible children with her could
match up with Hood births in Bonhill Dunbarton 1916 - 1924  :-\

Sue , would any of that make sense ?

Thank you ev and silvery.  I know she got married in Brisbane on 5th Feb 1944 to a Michael Vincent Sweeney and am trying to find the marriage to obtain a certificate. I think that is the best way to go.

Says on this site that the marriage had to take place 75+ years ago in order to get cert.

Is there anyone else you could get some information from?

Hi ev and silvery.
I am doing this research for my sister in Sydney and it is her husbands family he is deceased so cannot help.
I just found today the death of Joan Sweeney nee Hood in nsw as my sister remembered the year she died and her father was Claude Knox and mother was Isabella so it looks like we have the right family. She also remembered Aunty Issy and Aunty Jean but not George.  George I found died in 1943 and is buried with his father in Queensland. Thank you for your help and the battle now begins trying to go back further.
