FRANCIS in 1930s street directories for Liverpool
« on: Tuesday 22 January 13 14:29 GMT (UK) »
Hi Listers

I am new on this board and have very recently started looking at the 'other' side of my family history i.e. my Dad's lot. My father was born 1922 in West Derby but told me that as a child he lived not far from the infamous Mr Wallace (Wolverton Street, Anfield) which may or may not be true.

I live in South Wales and have no access to Liverpool street directories; neither do there appear to be any online for the period in which I am interested, the 1920s and 30s. Please could anyone look for me? My grandfather was Arnold Gordon FRANCIS and he was a Customs & Excise man. In the late thirties the family were in Great Crosby but I don't know when they moved. Any help would be most gratefully (and excitedly) received. Thank you.

Hi John

I do have that marriage (the certificate) thank you - it was kind of you to let me know though. I am just after a trade directory at the moment.

Thanks again :-)

Hi ShaunJ

Thanks for looking :-) I know that my grandparents lived in Great Crosby because I visited once when I was small but it was earlier than that I was after. As I said in my original message, my father told me that he had known Mr Wallace, having lived a few doors away. My father was born in 1922 and the Wallace murder case was in 1931 so that is the period that I am interested in because, if my dad was right, the family weren't at Orchard Dale then. Thanks!

Cheers, Karen

There are no online directories between 1911 and 1938 for Liverpool and surrounding areas. You would need to check directories at Liverpool Record Office or check the electoral rolls there. The area where Wallace lived is called Richmond Park it's the area between Breck Road and Lower Breck Road.

Hi Blue

Thank you so much for the information - my question is answered :-). Looks like I will have to write to the Liverpool Record Office and ask them to do the look-ups for me. I can then perhaps trace my father from his birth in West Derby in May 1922 to his family's move to 31 Orchard Dale by 1938 (actually he left home, like me, at 16 and so may never have lived there with his parents).

Thank you again
Karen
