Yes, from what I understand the children landed in Quebec and then were put on a train to Niagara on the lake.  From there they were placed in homes between Niagara and Toronto.  The first we know of Dorcas she was living with a family names Shern on a farm in York, Eglinton (Toronto).  I would appreciate any help or information anyone can provide.

1881 British census Leamington Warwickshire - Sarah living with her parents
1891 Briish census Leamington  Sarah married to John with a Mary A. Cowley (5) also living with them with John (3) and Maria (1).
1901 British census Leamington John and Sarah with John, Maria Lillie, Fred, Joe and Mary A. Cowley (17).
1911 census shows 11 year old Frollie and Fred with parents.  Sarah only indicates that there were 3 children to this marriage and all 3 children were living.

To gain insight into the home children, the best site that I know is
Young Imigrants to Canada (Including Home Children) by Marjorie P. Kohli
Under Societies and Organizations, there is info on Miss Rye.

For interest:  On your tree you have a uniformed Richard Charker with the notation that he died in WWI - relationship to Dorcas - brother.  This is the only Charker/Chalker/Cowley I could find and he was born 1899 to James and Elizabeth. ??

Yes, I'm actually starting to believe this isn't correct.  Dorcas had this photo with the writing on the back which says brother died WWI but we have no other information.  We're still trying to piece in where he fits.  I'm wondering maybe if he was perhaps married to one of her sisters or something of that nature.

This link is found (I think) within the earlier link posted by valeriec. This has addresses to write to to inquire about records.

Wonderful that Dorcus has a good life here in Canada.

She was brought over under the Church of England Waifs and Strays Society, since renamed the Church of England and children's Society. This site shows documents archived begin 1890 so they may have follow ups on her once in Canada

Nice that she was christened St Paul, Leamington, Warwick. Perhaps there might be more parish records for the others, or has your contact in England tried this route?

Odd that the descendants claim Cowley as an ancestor

Thanks for the information.  I assume they are claiming her as a decendant of Cowley because on the census they have her listed as Cowley. If they don't know the background they would just assume he was her father.
