1862 Burial of a person living at Howden pls
« on: Saturday 26 January 13 06:05 GMT (UK) »
I had hoped to find that Clara Dean MORTIMER would have been buried at Holme on Spalding Moor, the same as her father. However, I have been told that there are no other MORTIMERs buried there other than James.

Clara Dean Mortimer's death is registered as Q1 1862 Howden 9d/51. Is there another cemetery where she might have been buried. In both 1861 and 1871 they are living at Station Street, Holme on Spalding Moor.

Hi Joan...Because there was no MI found for her that doesn't mean to say that she wasn't buried there near her Father...as her Mother was widowed in 1857...she may not have been able to afford a headstone for Clara.

Here are some photos of the graveyard and also Holme On Spalding Moor that are available to buy online....Who knows...he may even photograph Jame's Headstone for you.

Sillgen - thanks but that is my earlier posting which did not find Clara. Gogogadgetlegs tells me in her information that there was no other MORTIMER entries in "Parish Entry for burials". So I assume she must have been checking the records not the MI list. I might be wrong so will check with her.

Treetotal - Hi Carol, thanks for that. He has some good photos. I already have the gravestone of my James and will try to attach it.

Well, that didn't work. When I click on Attachments and other options there is no space for attaching an image. Will go see if I can find out how to do this as it has bugged me for ages.

Checked the burial register for Holme on Spalding Moor and Clara is buried there after all:

Clara Dean MORTIMER, abode: Holme, buried: 21 January 1862, 14 years, Frederic Jopling, Off Minister.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Pinetree. I'm so pleased that I now have the right kind of evidence that tells me she died young.

Glad to help, I wasn't sure if you needed burial details for Clara's mum so I went to the end of the register but didn't see anymore Mortimers however the film I was viewing ended in about 1872.

If you need anything else just let me know.

Hello and thanks,

I don't have the detail for Sarah's death. I just know that she was 62 on the 1881 census and still living at Howden, but doesn't appear on the 1891. So, if it isn't too much trouble I would be very pleased to know more about her death if you can find it.

Regards,
