Could anyone tell me where someone who died 1936, in Newton of Novar, Evanton District of Kiltearn maybe be buried, and if there are MI's for the cemetery.

Hi there,

Kiltearn cemetery is still in use and there is another in nearby Alness. The records for these cemeteries would be held at the local service point in Alness. I did have an address for them but I think they recently moved to within Alness library. I'll have a google and see what I can come up with.

kind regards,
maclennan25

Hi again,

The highland council's page says they are within the library: http://www.highland.gov.uk/livinghere/servicepointnetwork/alness.htm

It doesn't mention burial records but with an exact date of death, I visited them at their old address a couple of years ago and they had the information I needed.

hope this helps,
maclennan25

p.s it was a Kiltearn plot in 1930s I was looking for that didn't have a headstone

maclennan25,

Have been in touch with Alness library and unfotunately, there records don't go as far back as 1930/1936. I was looking for Hugh MacKay and his wife Rosina MacKay (McLean)

Many thans for your help.

Hi Cupcake,

that's a shame, mine was 1940 (sorry, I thought it was 1937 until I double checked) and they had the record for that...

I don't know if you are aware of the following websites for photos of headstones (R&C as well as Inv), but they have proved very good for some of my research. I did have a quick look for the names you mentioned but didn't see any matches although I could have missed them.

I don't live too far away and could have a look at Kiltearn if you think there may be a stone there but it probably won't be for another week or so...

Kind regards,
maclennan25

Hi maclennan25,

Yes it is a shame but, that's what happens. I haven't had much luck with burial places in my searches.

I'll have a look at the addresses you sent. Being 1930 & 1936 there might be a headstone, but I would hate you to go there and there isn't one.

Both Hugh MacKay and Rosina MacKay (McLean) were born in Kildonan - I wonder if they were buried there - that said, I have no idea where that is and how far from Kiltearn.

Presumably the Strath of Kildonan in Sutherland, Mackay country and a long way from Kiltearn.

Skoosh.

Skoosh,

Thanks for that. Possibly, I only have Kildonan.

Which means there were more than likely to be buried in Kiltearn
