ROBERTS Family Broughton Gifford Wiltshire

Hello All

I was wondering if any one has any information of the following Roberts family members
I have checked all the usual places UK census records and also most of the other Major
sites but have hit brick walls

Mary Ann Roberts b. 1845 Broughton Gifford, Wiltshire
Sarah Roberts b. 1851 Broughton Gifford, Wiltshire
William Roberts b. 1853 Maddington, Wiltshire

I have details for the below listed family members

Parents are

Charles Roberts b 1822 Manningford Bruce Wiltshire
Edith Gore b. 1822 Broughton Gifford, Wiltshire

Siblings were as far as i am aware

Charles Albert Roberts b 1860


Any assistance would be greatly appreciated,

what section would Broughton Gifford be under on website you mentioned

Chippenham
Devies and Marlborough
Salisbury
Warminster

being from Australia, i am little unsure with the UK Counties

if you are unsure of an area google the placename + genuki

and there should be enough foundation material on the genuki site to match the technical material  ( but not always)


I think their purpose was to create databases with materials in each of the reg offices and then with the wro or freebmduk  give the master index  (and even then it has problems)

its very topsy turvey and does get a bit of getting used to but having done a little bit of wiltshire ( a lot)    it even took me time to adjust to....    sometimes one just has to buy the certs which is annoying

but its all good

i find its easier to just enter a surname and select all years on the wiltsbmd and bring the lot up

instead of trying to define ....  thats how i picked up on Fanny just before.... cos at large the maiden names are entered...

not all of wiltshire is on that site,  and now they have started the Wiltshire OPC I doubt a lot of material will go on the wilts bmd

many many thanks for help on this one, appreciated very much,

what makes it harder is that i know lots of the the Roberts family left and went elsewhere in the UK
just adds to the topsy turvy.

Which is even harder to track "marriages"

i have a little rule for finding marriages,   which doesnt always work but is handy to remember....

year of birth/christening x  + add 18 years / 21 years   gives me a selection then i try to find a census from there.... if it matches then i know i am one the right track...

however it falls apart when minors marry or 2nd marriages or ones later in life....

and it falls apart after the 1911 census but by then the spouse maiden name appears in a lot of cases....

Name:    William Roberts Gender:    Male Christening Date:    2 Oct 1853 Christening Place:    Maddington, Wiltshire, England Father's Name:    Charles Roberts Mother's Name:    Edith

It looks like Edith died in 1902
