Descendant of Edward Nelson Farmer d1989
« on: Thursday 31 January 13 07:17 GMT (UK) »
Hi - I am doing research for a genealogical style TV programme in NZ and seeking any descendants or even former work colleagues (they would have been young) of a Mr FARMER (most likely Edward Nelson FARMER) who in 1973 was working in a senior position as a Customs Officer at Orsett Port, Tilbury. He gave an object to a New Zealand couple to return to NZ but to be able to do that (belatedly!) they need to talk to a descendant to find out which POW camp Mr FARMER was in during WWII. If you have any clues please email (*). Mr Farmer married a Hilda HARTLEY in Pancras. Mr Farmer was more than likely born in 1910

Hi montywrites - I'm one of probably many who would be glad to help you with this search (out of the public eye, i.e. not on the boards), but unless you can be reached by private message, nothing further can happen.

I'm hoping that posting this message will get notice to you to come back to your thread so you'll see the moderator's edit comment, about posting two more messages (you need only say "hello" or "thanks") so you have access to private message sending and receiving.

Then you can feel free to click on my name and send a message, if you like. It seems that Edward and Hilda did have, probably, three children, so it may well be possible to trace family.

Meanwhile, it could be worthwhile to obtain the death certificates for Edward and Hilda (1983) to see whether a family member was the informant. If you need directions and the references for doing that, they can be provided easily.

Hi JaneyCanuck, sorry did not see your reply as I assumed an email would come when someone posted, and only just saw it today. As it turns out have managed to find a descendant and we're in the process of making contact with her just to see where her father served during the war. (Did what you advised, ordered the death cert and got the informant.) Mr Farmer is not on any POW lists so that's a bit odd but we are making some progress regardless. Thanks for getting back to me and for the tip on posting more than once to enable the DM.
