Marriages
« on: Saturday 02 February 13 22:04 GMT (UK) »
I hope this makes sense as I do not have all the details at hand.

I have previously asked for help trying to find more details about my ancestors who were either gypsy or travellers, I can trace most of them on censuses from the earliest, I have details of names and dates etc of some but what I was wondering was is there anyway I can find marriages as there doesn't seem to be any record of them in parish records.

I haven't tried to look for this branch of my family for a while so if in the last 12 months or so there have been any new developments in where to search for these ancestors records I would be grateful if anyone could give me some tips.

Thank you.

Thank you for the reply.  I think I am looking pre 1837 which is probably why I am having such difficulty.

Hi

Pre-1837 marriages are in parish records.  Many have been transcribed by the Mormon Church   see www.familysearch.org

Some Family History Societies have transcribed within their own area and these are usually available on a CD via their website

Ancestry and FindMyPast both have parish records online

I don't know which area you are mainly looking in but Lancashire and Cheshire each have the following sites and I am sure other areas do as well

You may not always find "formal" marriages, many travellers did not marry in Church but they did usually baptise the children-somewhere !!
