Forth Place, Bo'ness
« on: Sunday 03 February 13 09:43 GMT (UK) »
Hi Folks

Does anyone know the location of Forth Place in Bo'ness around 1915 - it is long gone now but has some significance in one of my lot's past.  I think it may have been a tenement building around what is now the town centre area (but may have been in Grangepans area).

Thanks

Hi Osprey,

Try here, http://www.rootschat.com/links/0sti/ I had a quick look, found a North and South Street, but you maybe spend more time on search.

Hi Tom

Thanks for the suggestion - I tried that map before I put the post up - no sign of it on that one (I think it dates from 1854).  I do recollect seeing a street map a few years ago - which was dated around 1910 - but I can't remember where I found it >:(

Cheers

Hi Osprey and Tom  :)

I don't know the general area at all, but, wondered about the possible reference to a Forth Street here:

If it does connect, modern mapping link to Dock Street here http://canmoremapping.rcahms.gov.uk/index.php?action=do_advanced&idnumlink=75306

Hi Monica

Thanks - the reference to Dock Street clinches it - I was reasonably sure that Forth Place was in the area that is now bounded by Dock St / Union St / East Pier St and Main Street.  The area in between them all used to have lots of old buildings and work type sheds etc - it has all been re-developed over the past 50 years or so.

Thanks for the pointer.

Not sure whether practical, but why not visit or contact Falkirk Library. They have a great collection of old photos, maps etc. of Bo'ness.

Thank again Monica

A trip to Falkirk isn't easy for me - but one day I will find the time for a special trip there to look at a whole host of old photos etc.

Ahh, I know what you mean! In which case, an email or phone call to the library could come in handy  ;)
