Banton - Birkett Marriage
« on: Sunday 03 February 13 16:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Can sks please help me find a marriage for the following births which were registered in Cockermouth district:

Ambrose Banton b Mar qtr 1912
Sarah Banton b Sep qtr 1914
Tom Banton b Sept qtr 1916
Albert Banton b Jun qtr 1918
Florence Banton b Sep qtr 1919
Richardson Banton b Sep qtr 1923

The births are all listed with Birkett as their mother and having checked on both Ancestry and Freebmd I cannot find a marriage, it may have been that they didn't marry but I would love to know for sure.

Regards

Perhaps he was Richardson BANTON (same as a child).

I see a Richard BANTON with wife Esther in 1911

Marriages Sep 1908
BANTON    Richardson        Cockermouth    10b   1068
CAPE    Esther         Cockermouth    10b   1068

I'm trying to link things to this marriage (but failing :()
Marriages Jun 1877
BIRKETT    John        Cockermouth    10b   769
CAPE    Jane         Cockermouth    10b   769
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

There's a family tree with them marrying in 1906 - William Banton and Sarah Brown Birkett but I don't see it  :-\

Ok found it under William Barton Sarah Brown Birkett Mar 1906 Cockermouth.
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Hi Geoff

Thank you so much for taking the time with this.

A little history lol

William Banton 1851-1888 married Sarah Tunstall in 1872.  They had 8 children including

Tom [not Thomas] m Mary Bell
Richardson m Esther Grierson Cape

before he was killed at St Helen's Pit

I have accounted for the 2 above and their families but have just noticed the Banton/Birkett births today and I have a gut instinct re the names that they are linked in some way but due to the lack of  a marriage its beating me lol

Hi Milliepede

Eureka, thank you

On freebmd William is listed as Barton not Banton

I have now found them on the 1911 and he is the middle brother of Tom and Richardson hence the family names.

Am now floating

Regards

Yes, agreed! :D

1911 census confirms them as BANTON.
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.
