WOW! THANK YOU!! I'm looking forward to perhaps matching some of these with my Barnetts and Crawfords. During this mid 19th century period did they have to register their marriages or was just the church marriage the legal record. Other than the church was there a government registration at this time in the earlier 19th century, as early as 1831?

I know it's important to stay on topic so I'm wondering if I should start a new topic as I get into years other than 1831. I think some of these marriages may take me into many other years and bring many more questions to mind. Is it ok to begin a new topic regarding some of this information?

Thank you again!!  caramarie

Hi,
Official registration of Protestant marriages started in 1845 and births and deaths in 1864. Various church records are earlier. Bovevagh Presbyterian church records started in 1817 in the Session Minute book before a proper marriage record book was started in about 1826.
If you have further questions it is better to continue on this thread as a new thread could cause confusion or duplication.

I'm glad to have this advice. Knowing that my Barnetts and Crawfords were in the 1831 Bovevagh census and then trying to extend this to other topics would be challenging. I like staying in one place with them rather than creating new "homes" or topics for them. Caramarie

Kingskerwell! Thank you! And you too caramarie. Every single Crawford marriage there is related to my family! Wow! I was going to try to find a death record for Letitia Ann Barnett. She married my 3 times Great Grandad, Joseph Crawford in 1830. Recorded as Ann Barnett then. He remarried in 1851. I presumed she had passed, but I see you have a record of a Letitia Ann Barnett marrying in 1875! Wow! Thank you

The Letitia Ann Barnett who married in 1875 had not been married before
