Hi

If see was the oldest child she might have been born out of wedlock so she could go under the mothers maiden name.

Not sure if you've got the marriage:

St Mary, Elland - 7 January 1838
Nathan Carter (x) 21 bachelor of Soyland, Spinner.  Father James, a Weaver
Ann Howard (x) 22 spinster of Soyland.  Father John, Twister

Marriage was by Banns, and the two witnesses, I think, are church officials.

I can't see Sarah being baptised, or Thomas.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
