67 years of the Bromsgrove Messenger newspaper goes live for FREE
« on: Tuesday 12 February 13 13:00 GMT (UK) »
Hi Folks,

The Bromsgrove branch of The Birmingham & Midland Society for Genealogy & Heraldry (BMSGH) is very pleased to announce free access to 19th and 20th century copies of the local newspaper, The Bromsgrove Messenger.  In all 67 years are available from edition one in 1860.  Content includes national and international news, as well as the expected auctions and traders, and the really important stuff, like Petty Sessions, local Worcestershire news and family announcements.

Although the .pdf files are open to everyone, you will need to be registered with the website and accept the copyright.

Unfortunately the files are not searchable, only browsable.   Help instructions are printed to the right of the actual files.  There are two ways of seeing the newspapers.  Firstly they can be viewed through any browser, with a pdf plug-in, in a small window.  Controls appear on 'mouse over' at the central position near the bottom of the viewer.    Alternatively they can be downloaded as a pdf file and read conventionally. (Readers with limited hard disk space should be aware of the large size of some files.) Adobe's controls allow printing.

To have a look go to http://www.bromsgrovebmsgh.co.uk/  The link, in the Resources Box on the left, to the resource only becomes visible after logging in.

Good luck and tell your friends

Mike
