1841 & 1851 Census look-up please - James Sands
« on: Friday 15 February 13 08:16 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to trace the father of William Sands, b circa 1840 in Manchester.

William's father is given as James Sands on William's wedding certificate.

I can find no mention of James in the FreeCen records for 1841 or 1851, but wonder if someone would be kind enough to look up for me on a paid site?  FamilySearch records suggest there are entries for a James Sands in the census records.

Many thanks!   :)

William's father is given as James Sands on William's wedding certificate.

What was William & his father James' occupation on marriage certificate

Were there any witnesses with the same surname - perhaps a brother/sister of William

I'm only seeing the same as Heatherjulie 1841/51 census father named JOSEPH

Here's that William's baptism

William Sands bapt 4  Apr 1838 Manchester  parents Joseph occ Spinner & Catherine

not seeing one in Manchester for a William Sands b1841 with father JAMES  ???

there is one for a Mary Ann Sands Oct 1841 father named James occupation coal miner mother Catherine

Who did William marry?

Here’s a William Sands born c1839 Manchester married to a Rosanna living with his in laws
1871c https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KZP3-T83

Here’s William & Rosanna plus many children
1881 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XQ8M-9L6

Thanks for the research, but I thing Joseph and Catherine are the wrong ones as I have a copy of willian's marriage certificate (to Rosanna) stating his father was called James. James' occupation is "Labourer".

Apologies for the dreadful spelling in my last post - I'm trying to get used to the tiny keyboard on my new iPhone!

A possibility

H0107 P516 book 7 ED24 F28 page 6 - Prescot Lancashire
Liverpool Road
James Sands born Ireland 25 Labourer
Margaret 30 born Ireland

If William was born after 1841 census was taken he would not be with parents

have to go now perhaps someone could check 1851 census for you to see if they have a son William

Mmm…. not finding a James & Margaret Sands born Ireland together on 1851 census
Lancashire with a son William born c1840 Manchester  ???

I wonder if William’s parents could have died  :-\

There are three deaths for a Margaret Sands  between 1843 – 1845 Manchester
unfortunately they don’t give her age  :(

and a death of a James Sands 1844 Manchester
if this is Williams' father his mother could have remarried

Have found William Sands on 1861 census with wife Rosanna

RG 9; Piece: 2889; Folio: 63; Page: 39
60 William Street Manchester
William Sands 21 (1840) Manchester Engine & Tool fitter
Rosanna 22 Manchester

now too see if I can find him in 1851
