Is there an address on the marriage certificate?
Which church did they marry in?

Hi Heather, here are the details from the Marriage Certificate:

William Sands married Rosanna McKervey at Saint Wilfred’s Roman Catholic Chapel, Hulme, Manchester on 11th September 1860. The wedding certificate states that William is aged 20, a Mechanic (fitter) living at 52 Owen Street, Hulme.  His father is named as James Sands, a labourer.  Rosanna is recorded as aged 22, no occupation living at 39 Owen Street, Hulme.  Her father is recorded as Daniel McKervey (deceased), an Engineer (Locomotive).

James is recorded as deceased on William's marriage certificate.

So the 1844 death in Manchester for James Sands just maybe William's father

I still can't find  William Sands born c 1840 Manchester  on the 1841/1851 census  ???

Just to confirm did I post the correct William & Rosanna Sands on 1881/1871/1861c census? The reason I ask is that her father's name was given as Danl O'NEIL

then there's this marriage entry Sep 1860 Chorlton
William SANDS
Name on same page
Rosanna MCKERVEY

William & Rosanna’s first child  son Wm H Sands born c 1861 Manchester

Ah it's all become clear about Rosanna surname

1851 census HO107; Piece: 2221; ; Page: 4
Daniel O NEIL Ireland Labourer
Annie wife 31 Ireland
Rosanna Mc KERVY stepdaughter 12 Manchester
Daniel O Neil son 2
John 7mths
Cormick O Neil brother single 37
Mary O Neil sister single 39

1848 Manchester
Daniel O’Neill Name on same page Ann McKervey

Birth entry Sep 1838 Manchester Rosanna McKervey

I think this might be Rosanna with her mother/grandparents on the 1841c but she’s named Ann  ???

Transcribed McKurvey

HO107 P570 book 15 ED 3 F 40 Page 29
Lombard Street Manchester
Hugh McKervey 50 Ireland Labourer
Rose 55 Ireland
Margaret 15 England
Ann 24 Ireland
Ann 3 (1838) England

I wish William Sands was as easy to find on earlier censuses ???

Thanks for that Ladyhawk. I think I have a potential birth entry for Rosanna so I might send away for the Birth Certificate to confirm if "Ann" was actually "Rosanna".

William is proving very elusive to me on 1851c  ??? Could be  his mother has remarried and he's going by that surname  :-\

Rosanna Sands is widowed by 1891 census

on the 1881 census William Sand's pob Chorlton U Medlock born c1840

Is this William’s death Mar 1890 Chorlton  age 49

two possibly birth entries for Chorlton for a William Sands

Jun 1840 Chorlton
and
Dec 1841 Chorlton

I'm not sure when William died, I've not researched that yet.  I identified three potential Williams born around the right time and place: One b 1838, one b 1840 and a third b 1841.  I have the Birth Cert for the one b 1838 and his father is Joseph.  I guess I'll take pot luck and order one of the other two  to try and find James!  However, what if they both have fathers called James ???

Given that James' and Rosanna's parents might prove to be from Ireland, I'm going to have to learn how to research over there soon!  ::)

Take a look at the Lancashire BMD site for the birth entries you mention http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/ perhaps you can contact them first with William's father's name
and occupation - you never know

Good luck

Thanks Ladyhawk. Yes, I think the links from William and Rosanna going forward in time are quite clear, my request was to find a link from William to his father James. Thank you for the potential links for both William and Rosanna's parents!
