How to identify defendant in a court case.
« on: Saturday 16 February 13 03:40 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I'm trying to find out the christian name of the gentleman(?) named as the defendant in a "Breach of Promise" court case reported, among other places, in the Blackburn Standard, on Saturday, 17 December, 1892. The court proceedings were at the Liverpool Assizes, and the litigants' names were Jowett (defendant) / Clara Potts (plaintiff). No christian name is given for Mr. Jowett and this is what I wish to know. I believe the parties concerned were residents of Mellor in Derbyshire.
Any suggestions, please?

Thanks for the reply, Heywood - I didn't realize Wattsy had already sought the help of this Forum. It seems we are unlikely to ever find out the full name of this fellow. But, I would guess that his full details must have been recorded somewhere in the "system", so who knows what might eventually turn up.
Thanks again.
