Desperate for help!!!!
« on: Saturday 16 February 13 12:20 GMT (UK) »
Hi all, I am looking for the birth of my Grandmother. According to her gravestone she died in 1952 at the age of 59. I think that her surname at birth possibly Jones. According to rumours she was born in Pontcarreg, Newcastle Emlyn. She was married to my Grandfather - David Rees. I include a picture of the gravestone in the hope that helps.

Have just looked at the post.  The wording on the gravestone is not that clear.

Would you please type the inscription up  and post it.  Also I cannot see her first name.
:).  Do you have a date and place for their marriage?

It's a gravestone of a child, with mother and father.
The child's name is missing.

The rest says:
Hunodd yn yr iesu tach 25 1922
yn 2 flwydd a 7 mis oed.
gadewch blant bychain ddyfod attaf fi.
hefyd am yr uchod
Sarah Rees
hunodd awst 29 1952 yn 59 oed.
Hefyd am ei phriod
David Rees
Hunodd Rhacfyr 11 1979

Or (roughly translated):
Fell asleep in Jesus nov 25 1922 at 2 years and 7 months old.
Let little children come unto me.
also on the above
Sarah Rees
slept august 29 1952 aged 59.
Also of her husband
David Rees

If Annie died in November 1922, age 2 years 7 months, then she was born in March/April 1920?

So this birth, registered in June qtr 1920, looks good?

Newcastle Emlyn district    vol 11b, page 24
Rees, Annie M     mother's maiden name: Jones
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Your mother's or father's birth certificate should confirm Sarah's maiden name.

Then, the marriage certificate for David & Sarah will confirm her father's name.

From that, there is a good chance of finding her on 1901 and 1911 census returns.

With a name like Jones, you need some sort of documentary trail to follow! ::)

Possibly this death reg
David Rees dec qtr 1979 Carmarthen vol 24 pg 1466 - date of birth given 26/8/1896

Any idea if Sarah had a middle name? There are 2 likely looking marriage regs

David Rees & Sarah Jones sept qtr 1916 Newcastle In Emlyn vol 11b pg 36

David Rees & Sarah M Jones march qtr 1916 Lampeter vol 11b pg 37
