MURTAGH Ancestry Search
« on: Tuesday 19 February 13 20:20 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to research the ancestry of my father Thomas L Murtagh Born 1899 in Kings County(Co. Offaly).
Thomas Murtagh came to Canada in 1913 either alone or with his brother. I believe his parents may be David Murtagh born 1873 and Theresa Murtagh (nee Berry) born 1875.
I am having difficulties finding a marriage certificate between David & Theresa.
All Help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you, Thomas P. Murtagh

Is this the family in the 1901 Census in Clara Offaly?

Can't seem to find them in the 1911 Census.

I couldn't find the marriage on the civil registration index but on www.rootsireland.ie in Offaly there is a church marriage for a David Murtagh and Teresa Berry in 1894- This is a pay site you can search for free once registered but it cost about 4 euros to download and view the record. Also with church marriages there may not be any information re father's names that you would get from the civil record.

Annclare: Thank you very much for the information on the marriage records. It is exactly what I am looking for. Unfortunately I am not able to pull up the information you found. I go to Marriages in Offaly and put in his and her name with the date and it returns no records found. Should I be looking somewhere else in the rootsireland.ie site? Thanks Tom

Annclare: I tried again after I sent you my last message and was able to pull the church record. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks again for your help. Tom
