Robert Edward Browne
« on: Thursday 21 February 13 13:16 GMT (UK) »
I have been trying to help a friend with research and have come upon a dead end on a family member.  Robert Edward Browne was born on 9/20/1865 in Londonderry and died on 8/17/1955 in Philadelphia, PA, USA according to his death cert.  On the US census in 1900 & 1920, it shows him arriving to the US in 1883, but the 1930 reflects 1885.  I have his information here in the States - his marriage to Mary L. Murtha and the rest of his days in Philadelphia.  He was a weaver as a trade here, so it is possible that was his family trade.  I cannot locate his origins in Derry and that is where I hope to find some help.  The only Robert Browne I have located in Derry is one born in February 1865 to Robert and Martha.  Does anyone see anyone else or is it possible that his information in the US is not accurate?

Thank you!

U.S. certificates usually list names of parents- are those details not on marriage and death certificates?

Civil registration of births started in 1864 so if he was born around that time there may not be a birth registration.

Hello!  Unfortunately, the death cert did not provide anything further.  He was born after 1/1/64, so I hope to locate something on him.  Thanks for responding!  :)

If you only have the date of birth from a death certificate it may not be 100 % accurate (many people wouldn't have been sure exactly when they were born so there can be differences between various records). Although registration of births started in 1864 not all early births were registered. There;s also the possibility that his birth, if registered, is under Robert or Edward (not Robert Edward) or even 'male' is no first name(s) recorded.

What's the exact date of death?

Could this be them in 1940? If so, Robert born c1863 (before registration)-
