Hi Sue and Gerry,
How was that for feelings of gratitude?  Thank you, thank you, thank you. Gerry, Sue, Merlin, tedscout, Debra, Mariona and cando, you are all wonderful and I really, really, really appreciate all your help and going that extra mile.

Gerry, any costs that you incurred I am more than happy to reimburse you for.  I would love the A3 copy of the map, I will frame it for my Dad.  I can also send you info I received by email from the Ipswich council regarding where Fridolin is buried and would love a copy of the transcript you found.
I was looking at the map that Merlin sent me and couldn't find those portions mentioned that Elizabeth Schmeider had applied to erect the swing gates on, so this has really helped.  I appreciate you taking the time to go to the state library and do this for me and my dad.  In fact, I appreciate everything that everyone has done for me and my family in my searches.  The map Merlin was fabulous as well, it is so interesting to look at early Ipswich.

Warmest and kindest regards,
Leisa

:)

Hi Leisa,

Thanks for your email address but I need your PO address but send this to me via the PM system, any email or PO addresses on the main boards are generally deleted by the Moderators.

The State Archives were kind to us re Fredolin Schmeider.

His lease application was held on microfilm which I'll email you.

The 1884 Flinders Parish map showing allotment 228 with his name written across the block was a surprise find and we just had to get a copy, it's bigger than A3.

I'll also send a copy of an 1968 map for the same area, but smaller, his block is still there but there are no names marked, Lot 228 is by now slightly bigger at 95A.0R.10P, probably the result of a re-survey.

Gerry

Death
Qld Microfishe Death Records
Fredolin SCHMEIDER
D: 17/2/1875
F: Andrew Schneider
M: Catherina

Burial

Some of the photocopies of the hand written burial records for the Ipswich Cemetery for 1875 are a bit difficult to read especially with some of the letters but there is a record which I think is Fredolins's

Grave: No 1091
Deceased: Frederick Schneider
Age: 50
Sex: Male
Trade or occupation: Farmer
Religeon: Roman Catholic
Date of Death: 17th Feby 1875
Date of Burial: 18th
Name of applicant: G Dowden
Date of application: 18th July 1875  (I'll have to double check this it may have been Feb and I wote it down wrong)
Name of officiating Clergyman: nil ( Many other RC burials on the register at that time also had no Clergyman)
Name of Undertaker: G Dowden

Thank you Gerry, yes that is definately Fredolin.
Again wonderful research that I am very grateful for.
I was talking to dad this morning and told him of what you had found out for us.  I told him I'll take him to Ipswich again and we'll locate where the original farm was.  He was very grateful as well.
Hopefully with this new info, we'll be able to find his grave as well.  When we went there we looked in the Roman Catholic Section and tried to find the two names of the gentlemen buried next to him.  Apparently with floods and vandalism there has been alot of damage.  But we'll endeavour to keep searching, I would really love to place a headstone on his grave for him, especially since he was the start of the Schmeider line in Australia.  Did you get the email about the cemetery search at all.  I'll send it again if you didn't.  I'll send you my address via email as well.
Thank you Gerry,
Leisa

Hi Leisa,

Thank, I got your emails ok and it looks like we have the correct grave number.

I think there is an association Fredolin and Lots 11 & 14 in the Parish of Goolman which are directly adjacent to Lot 228 which we know was leased by Fredolin and incidently lot 11 is directly adjacent also but on the other side to Thomas Glinn and we know, as found by Sue that Fredolin had a 'blue' with Mrs Glinn, his opposite neighbour.

In a Government Notice 4th April 1879 two persons Dr Henry Von Lossberg and Charles Wilson made a claim on Lots 11 & 14 Parish of Goolman as 'devisees' in trust under Fredolin's will dated 23rd August 1873.

So it looks like that Fredolin had left lots 11 & 14 to these two persons in his will!

The Lots were 'fee simple' which I think means freehold as against lease.

In short, it looks like Fredolin may have leased lot 228 in the parish of Flinders and owned lots 11 & 14 in the parish of Goolman .  Lot 228 was directly adjacent to lots 11 & 14 the boundary was the fence line which was also the Parish border.

It sound messy but it needs more research plus a look at an early map of Goolman Parish if it's available.

Gerry

Thank you Gerry,
I can't wait to hear what you find out about the parish map.  It's all very interesting.  I wonder if Fredolin had to give the land back after he passed away.  I don't know either of those names and to my knowledge, his eldest son Karl took over the farm for his mother and drove bullock teams to earn money for his family.  This was until Karl himself married and built a home for his wife in the area as well.  Story has it that he was doing well and then built a bigger house for his wife.  Things weren't going well and he couldn't afford the repayments.  So he came up to Winfield Watalgan area and selected land up here.

Thank you for looking into Peak Mountain school for me.  I'm sure that's where the children would of gone.

Thank you again,

Leisa
