New here- Malta
« on: Sunday 24 February 13 02:59 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I'm new here, this site looks great. Wish I found it years ago.

I hope to be able to find relatives from Malta for my 94 year old mother. I have built a family tree but have so much information missing. My mother is 1 of 18 or 21 children, we are not sure as she finds it hard to remember things these days.  :'( There is only 1 of her siblings left alive who is 88 and she too does not remember too much.

I would really appreciate any help with trying to get the information I need to give my mother some peace with remembering the names of her siblings.

Thank you all for your help.

Regards,
MazHar  :)

Welcome to RootsChat.  I'm sure someone will be able to help you but not I; I know nothing about tracing people in Malta.  There are specialists here of every kind.  Why don't you start by giving some known names and dates to work on.

Thanks Erato & Joe,

Wow this sounds promising having specialists to offer a hand and you are not wrong Joe it will keep me busy for some time. I've been working on this tree for around 15 years so far. I have managed to find current family which I did not know, however no one seems to be able to give me any information on our ancestors. I was lucky enough to have met my dad's sister, my 92 year old aunt from UK for the first time via Skype. That was such a buzz. I hope to be able to at least find out the names of my mother's siblings for her before I run out of time. By the way, what are all the names at the bottom of your messages? Have a great day/evening and thanks again.  :)

Hiya Mazhar and welcome to Rootschat
post the surname you are researching in Malta and we can start by seeing if there are any familytrees for that name .
your mother is 94 and 1 of 18 - 21 children ....what is her maiden name and if possible her Mothers maiden name ....maybe we can find all her siblings births ..where was your mum born ?
don`t post your mums name /and her sisters name as they are alive ....
if you can possibly post your mums parents names that will be a good starter
have fun

Thanks Anne & Allan. I hope I managed to put the names in the profile correctly. I put the names of my parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The (m) between names means they married, where I have the - after the name indicates place of birth and the ? means I don't know place of birth. I do have some of the names for my mother's siblings, however she only remembers 10 of them and up until 3 months ago we thought there were 18 siblings. Upon getting to meet some cousins via Skype I was told that their father, mum's older brother had always told them there were 21 siblings. A few of them died as infants and my mother does not recall them. I also have lost family in America by the surname Cuschieri, mum's older married sister.  I myself am 1 of 10 kids. We seem to have family scattered all over the world. Some in Canada, Italy, Malta, Sth Africa, Uk and Australia. None of my relatives are able to give me any details and I am the one putting the puzzle together for the lot of us. There are many cousins, some I know and a lot I am still to discover. I really do appreciate all your help with my venture. I especially thank you for your interest with regards to helping me find my mother’s siblings names and hopefully form there if possible I will find their date of births, deaths and marriages. Another big thing my mother really wishes is to find are photos of her siblings especially one of her older sisters which we just can’t get our hands on. It is so sad that family history tends to just fade away as if they didn’t exist. I want to get to know as many of my ancestors and relatives as I can possibly get to know. Thanks again all, take care.

hi there welcome to rootschat

it may be worth your time to look in the national library of australia and national australian archives websites for any immigration or naturalisation documents relating to Maltese folk.

Also there is a Maltese Association in Melbourne Australia that can be contacted regarding the resettlements of Maltese Nationals after World War 2......  I am not certain where to find that addie though......

best of luck with your research...
