Spect you're tucked up in bed by now but I'm exploring:

He wouldn't have joined the Merchant Navy, would he:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KCQK-VDG

then

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XT8V-VZ8

I am now looking at a MN record - John Adam, b. Kirkintilloch,  1824, Ticket no 569336.  He was a Cook (1854-56) which might fit with being a baker!

- will investigate further.

The death at sea in 1869 isn't him as that one was born Exmouth but the Cook one could be  :-\

Annoyingly, there's an 'unmarried' mariner called John Adams, b. Scotland, aged 37, lodging in London on the 1861  RG9/278/30/19  Possibly a different one  from the cook though  :-\

Isabella Adam, d, 16, milliner
Jessie Adam, d, 14
Ths Adam, s, 11

All b. Glasgow

Note Elizabeth is down as married!

Hi Brevitas :)

Yes, while you were beavering away, my head was down on my yellow pillowcase ;D

I appreciate the time spent on looking for the family, and finding them in the 1861 census .... it is a little bit forward.  Think this family will have to go on the back burner for the time being .... they aren't ready to be fully found yet.

In the meantime I will make this completed.

Cheers

Yes, it is Horn.  ;D  What made me think he was deceased, was this comment by his name on his father's 1855 Statutory Death .... and of course the informant was David, who did the other one.

Cheers

No that just records child no 8  to Thomas and Janet - it reads

1 John - 30                8 Thomas dec at  1
2 Elizabeth 29
3 Margaret 27
4 Marion 25
5 Mary 22
6 David 19
7 Janet 14

( shown on the link you sent  - #847

http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/LANARK/2002-10/1035775910  )

So John looks as if he was alive in June 1855. None of the others appear so far, either.  :-\

Just realised I missed reading this one ...... I found the others in the census with two of them last appearing in the 1881 census.  They were all still living in the same place as their parents.
