Can not see where they fit
« on: Monday 25 February 13 22:22 GMT (UK) »
Hello wondering if anyone can help find where these 2 Charles fit. I have on notes from census a

Charles R Godfrey b 1863 in Marylebone (1881 and 1891)
Charles Godfrey 1871 in St Johns Wood (1891)

Living with Aunt Caroline Godfrey nee Harvey in Ware Herts. Thing is Carolines husband who died 1862 only had one brother that I have found a Charles who as far as my notes go never married and stayed in Ware till his death in 1886 so questions:

how could he have fathered children born in London ?
Is there another brother who I have missed ?
Did Charles (snr) actually move from Ware to London and marry and I have wrong Charles (snr) ?

Anyone any ideas what road to take ?

Thank You.

Following Caroline's Mother in law Susan (on 1891) back I see she has  at least two daughters - Susan b 1841 and Eliza b 1846. Notably there is someone who fits Susan working as a servant in 1861 in Marylebone! I guess they are illegitimate children of one or both daughetrs (both possibly - given both are called Charles) who are sent back to ware to be raised by family

Charles R Godfrey is living with his grandmother in 1871 - ref piece 1351, folio 55, page 29

There are also sisters Betsey and Caroline on 1841

Susan[nah] appears to marry a Thomas Doughty in 1865 - her address is St JOhn's Wood. A witness is Betsey Caroline Godfrey - not sure if this is a combination of her older siblings or Eliza under a different name

How old is the Susannah in 1871 census whose married to Thomas Dougherty ?

Hello Thank You for that Keyboard86. Think that should say Caroline instead of Emeline and I think Eliza must be another daughter to Joseph and Susan but I haven't come across any record notes for her  ??? The infant Godfrey could possibly be Charles of 1871 St Johns Wood.
