Colthorpe/Lincoln marriage in Hartismere 1925
« on: Thursday 28 February 13 11:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi - I am researching the marriage of Ada Lincoln to Baden Powell Colthorpe which was in Jan-Mar 1925 in the district of Hartismere, nr Eye, Suffolk.  There are 2 Baden Powells in Suffolk at that time and I need the fathers and occupations to connect to the right family and wonder if they married with a parish record before I order the cert from GRO?

Thanks

Hi

To look up a marriage in the parish records you need to know which church it took place in

The Hartismere RD covered a lot of areas

Although there were 2 Baden Powell Colthorpes born in 1900 - one had an extra initial M and his birth was registered in the Thingoe RD.  It is this Baden who married in 1925 as per the freebmd entry

Per 1901 - his parents were George & Jessie.  He is shown as b Bardwell and was living in the Thingoe RD which ties in with his birth reg

The other Baden was b Ipswich and 1901 shows his parents as Ernest F and Louisa

Thanks for this info.  Ada Lincoln's family lived in Horham, Suffolk which is a village with the church of St Mary.  Must be likely she married there and it's in Hartismere.  Might there be some parish records we could view?

The plain Baden Powell Colthorpe emigrated to Canada with his parents Ernest and Louisa and 6 siblings on 19/9/1907.

The one who married Ada M. Lincoln in 1925 is, as already stated, the Baden Powell M. Colthorpe (son of George and Jessie).   Looks like Ada M. died in Jun. qtr.1956 Chelmsford, Essex and Baden Powell M. Colthorpe remarried Sept.qtr.1960 Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire.   He died Sept.qtr.1970 Hemel Hempstead.
