What happened to Henry and Frances MOON?
« on: Friday 01 March 13 04:30 GMT (UK) »
In 1851 Henry and Frances MOON were living in Haswell, Durham with their 5 year old son George Henry and Frances' mother Frances SCOTT.

1851 census HO107; 2392; 438; 37

George Henry ended up in Australia. I am not sure how he got here yet but on his death certificate he had lived in Victoria, Australia for 38 years. He died in 1896.

I believe this couple also had a daughter named Annie Frances in 1847. (This comes from someone elses family tree). Annie did not come to Australia.

Can anyone find this couple on a later census or deaths for them? I am trying to find out if they emigrated with George Henry or if George Henry came to Australia on his own aged 13.

Thank you for reading this and any help is really appreciated.

If these names are familiar it is because I have had a couple of threads on the Australian board

Henry Moon and Frances Scott married in 1844 in the Durham Registration District which in those days covered a lot of the County. George Henry Moon was baptized 22 September 1845, Durham. (From familysearch.org and I do not know what "Durham" means as there would be quite a few parishes in the City). An Anne Frances Moon aged 14 is on the 1861 Census as being born in Birtley, County Durham and living in Crook and Billy Row as a "Niece"). Durham Records Online has her baptism 1846 abode Birtley.

It's film 1519928 which comes up on the Family History Library search as a Methodist Church somewhere in the Durham Circuit. http://tinyurl.com/bv4ug5q

Thank you for all your help. I have been away Scouting so I have only just got back here to look at your replies.

The Frances MOON who came to Australia seems to have come on her own. And if the death certificate is correct then she came out before her son Henry.

Methodist would be correct as the family were methodist's over here.

Barryd - Does Anne Frances baptism show her as having the same parents as George Henry?

Why would they leave Anne Frances in England???????????

I have purchased the Death Cert for Henry that Ciderdrinker found. It is definitely him. Will post the last two frames that show wives (yes plural I think) and children. It is hard to read but George Henry (Dec) is there as eldest child. Anne Frances is there too.

Oh and Henry died in 1899 aged 74 and he had been in Victoria for 40 years.

I have posted my reply on the AUSSIE thread:

Anne Frances Moon is on the (reasonably priced) pay to view website Durham Records Online.

You can do a search on Durham Records Online with the child's name cross-referenced to that of the parents.

In the case of Ann Frances you get a definite result if you cross-reference it to the names Henry and Frances.

As barryd has pointed out, DRO is a pay-per-view site, and if you want the full record you'll need to buy a few credits, which are very reasonably priced.
