CUFF, George, Justice of the Peace 1816 - 1858 Jamaica
« on: Friday 01 March 13 15:05 GMT (UK) »
I have a line from Leila Cornelia Cuff 1853 - 1889, parents George and Ann.  LDS has her christening details.  There seems to be a sister Georgianna b 1845 and possibly a brother Alfred George CUFFE b 1847 both born in Jamaica (no Christenings found for them).  Are there any other online record to search?  I think I've got all I can from LDS, including Alfred George's youngest son Arthur Vincent Christened 12/10/1871 in Jamaica.  Alfred George was a surgeon and came back to Britain.  The girl also came back and married.

The possible father of all three has an obit:
"Cavan Observer, Published in Cavan, county Cavan August 7, 1858
DIED
August 4, in London, sincerely and deservedly regretted by a wide circle of relatives and friends, George CUFF, Esq., J.P., of Fulerswood Port, Black River, Jamaica, aged 42, second son of the late Michael CUFF, Esq., of Forthill, county Mayo, and Emmaus, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica"

Thank you all ever so much  ;D

I think that confirms suspicions that Leila Cornelia Cuff's son, George Willmore Kennedy (father Charles Willmore Kennedy), married his cousin Florence Anna Cuffe (his mother's brother's daughter).

I did wonder about the extra E in the name, but came to the conclusion that families sometimes vary their names just to be different  8)

George Cuff was my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather. He and Anna had 5 children - Georgianna b.1845, Alfred Gordon b.1846, George John b.1848, Percival George b.1849 and Leila Cornelia b.1853.
The first wife of my Grandfather, George Willmore Kennedy was indeed his cousin, Florence Anna Cuff. They married in 1906 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

John Cuff was the brother of George Cuff (my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather). He inherited the Emmaus Penn, Jamaica from their father Michael Cuff. Both Michael and John were buried in the cemetery at Emmaus, St Elizabeth, Jamaica.

George Cuff died in 1858. He was buried 7 August 1858 in the Catacombs at Kensal Green All Souls Cemetery, London.

The line I'm following are the Tomlinsons - paternal line of a cousin.

Percy Tomlinson married Charlotte Leila Kennedy (d/o Charles Willmore Kennedy and Leila Cornelia Cuff).  Their son Eric Percy Tomlinson married Mary Enid Honor Jones, sister to my paternal grandmother Ida Jones.

The girls' father was William Tyzack Jones, a timber merchant and Mason.
