John And Mary Taylor
« on: Friday 01 March 13 19:58 GMT (UK) »
I hope somebody can help ?

I have the following on 1901 census living at Heworth, County Durham as Coal Miner;

John Taylor age 44 (born 1856/57) occupation Miner - Born In Scotland
Mary Taylor age 43 (born 1857/58) wife - born Scotland

They are living with Daughter Mary  who is 21 (born 1879/80) Pittington, County Durham

I cannot find any of them before 1901, any advice or information would be appreciated.

Thanks
John

Hi John

Do you know Mary's maiden name.

Between 1876 and 1886 there are 33 marriages between a John Taylor and a Mary  ??

Hi Bruce

No, maiden name unknown, I cannot find her birth to get the certificate.

They are in the North East around 1879 for birth of their daughter and at that time their ages would have been for John abt. 23 and Mary abt. 22   so possibly moved down from Scotland for work in coal mines. So a start would be between 1874 to 1880.

Not a lot to go on, I know.

Thanks
John

John, you mention daughter being Mary...was she not named Margaret or is this a transcription error?

From 1901 in Felling, Heworth:

James Billingham 26
Margaret Billingham/Taylor 21 b. Leamside, Durham
John Taylor 44, father in law b. Scotland
Mary Taylor 43 mother in law b. Scotland
Sarah Ann Billingham 56
Joseph Billingham 60

Oh dear, apoligies, I have made a silly mistake there, should read;

John Taylor age 44 (born 1856/57) occupation Miner - Born In Scotland
Mary Taylor age 43 (born 1857/58) wife - born Scotland

They are living with Daughter Margaret  who is 21 (born 1879/80) Pittington, County Durham

Thanks, I have that census and the 1911 census that shows Margaret, but cannot find any of them before 1901 ?

Thanks
John

With the reference to Leamside for her birth place in 1901, have you considered this birth entry for Margaret? https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NBBY-DL1

Hi Monica,

Thanks, yes I did have a look at that one, the parents John Taylor and Mary Anne Taylor place of birth are showing both County Durham on the census and the ages are incorrect.

I't a bit of mystery, not sure where to look now ?

Thanks
John
