COMPLETED - Please tidy up my Grandad

I have at last been sent a picture of my Grandfather. Unfortunately, it has suffered the ravages of time. I do hope someone can help restore him to his former glory.

I would also be pleased if anyone could identify the uniform and the background.

I thought it looked like a special 'photographer's backdrop', that was used in WW1. I have a picture of my other Grandfather in uniform in front of a painted backdrop of a stone ballustrade and painted clouds. I thought that this looked similar, but no idea of the subject of this one.

I realise that this might be too much of a challenge given the poor quality of the left side, but perhap a partial restoration with just Grandad, would be possible.
I know he was at Gallipoli and Egypt, so would love him to look a bit more respendant.

Thank you all so much for the great work. What a thrill to see Grandad looking so good.
As usual, instead of the original one scrappy picture, I end up with having to choose, and ultimately, I keep all of them!
