UK DIVORCE RECORDS
« on: Monday 04 March 13 23:49 GMT (UK) »
Hi Folks,
Looking for Divorce records for someone who married in 1921 and was divorced before 1949.
Any ideas where to look if they exist?.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Nanny Jan,
Thanks for swift reply from another "night-bird".
Yes I have looked, but it goes up to 1937 and nothing showing.
So must after 1937, but where are the records.

Thank you for your input.

Only about 0.2% of divorce papers, dated after 1937 survive.

You can get a copy of the decree absolute from The Principal Probate Registry (https://www.gov.uk/copy-decree-absolute-final-order), but for a fee of £60 you will only get a single A4 sheet of paper, with very little information! ::)

What were you hoping to find?
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

The £60 will get you a 10 year search but even if the case files survive, you won't get them.

You make an application for a copy of the Decree Absolute and that is what you get.

It tells you the name of the parties, the date and place they married and the date the decree nisi was made absolute.

It is also known that a number of parties went as far a getting a decree nisi but never had it made absolute so there is no record in the decree absolute index.
