anyone know where this might be?
« on: Tuesday 05 March 13 15:59 GMT (UK) »
Dear Rootschatters

I've come across this picture following the death of an elderly relative, and have attached a scan of it.

It's quite big - about 13 inches by 10.5, mounted on board.

It shows a group of people, mixed military and civilians.  I think that it could be an aircraft hanger??
Could the military personnel at the front of the group be Americans?
The words on the crane at the top of the image read "Wellman Crane  Load not to exceed 5 tons"
I can't read the words on the boxes on the right of the image.

My relative lived in Wantage, and had lived and worked there for many years.

I wonder if this might be at RAF Harwell, pre atomic days, or maybe Grove airfield?

regards

Looks early '60s to me.  If so it is unlikely to be Grove or Harwell.  As the chaps in uniforms look like Americans I wonder if it could be Welford or Greenham Common?
