Cecile Esther Master-Byng
« on: Wednesday 06 March 13 19:45 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to prove if the above lady was really born in Ireland possibly Cork in 1880.
I know where she was married--- St Giles London in 1910 have cert: to Felix Call & she died 1918 Devon have death cert also. The 1911 census says she was married 7 years but this must be incorrect. Any help appreciated.

Cecile Esther Master-Byng

Marriage registration shows her as Ethel - not Esther

Is she shown as a spinster on the marriage cert

What was her fathers name and occupation

Is she on the Irish 1901 or English 1901 census

Thank you both for replying. I can only read Master -Byng. She is a spinster. Married on 1st June 1910. As the Marriage cert is so difficult to understand due to ill treatment, I have today sent for a new one. Her death cert says clearly Cecile Esther Call & that is how she was known in the family died 26 July 1918 Ilsington Devon.

Felix Call was a Captain in the Royal Irish Regiment, rising to Lt. Col. (DSO + bar).
Which might explain how they met, if she was from Ireland?

Can't find any mention of her via Google - I thought it might have been a society wedding?

Thank you for the last two replies, I know quite a lot about Felix, he was baptised & buried in the C of E faith, in fact as a small child I cycled 14 miles each year to put flowers on his grave.
My Grandmother's diary records in June 1910 that Felix married Cecile, one gets the impression that Grandma was not best pleased. I have found that Felix is registered as a voter in 1911 at 16 Conan Mansions Fulham. The 1911 shows a Cecile Call in Breage Cornwall as a visitor, but that states she had been married 7 years has had 2 children who both died. I guess that it might just be possible that Cecile had had twins between June 1910 & the census of 1911 but they don't show up in the birth registers. I was hoping that someone might have access to births in Cork in 1880

Registration of births in Ireland started in 1864- the indec is online at https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1&countryId=1927084. However, finding her in the index may be difficult with a 'double' surname so be sure to try all possible variations.

Where does Cork as a possible birthplace come from? have you traced her in all possible census records to see if more detail/other information given for birthplace?

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thank you for the last suggestion, my best efforts on the Irish births don't show Cecile & I have only been able to find her on the 1911. Putting in just Master Byng on Ancestry brings up a
George Master Byng born 1886 Malling Kent which just might be a brother. This George was at Sandhurst around the time Felix was there. Although Felix was commissioned into The Royal Irish it would  appear from his service record that he never actually served in Ireland
