Edith May Wallace
« on: Thursday 07 March 13 18:59 GMT (UK) »
Edith 1892-1975 was the daughter of Peter Wallace 1868-1903. and Mary Ann Wiles 1872-1925.

I cannot find where Edith was in 1911 census. She is not living with her widowed mother and siblings. Can you help please.

Edith went on to marry Benjamin Presland 1890-1949

Also in the 1901 census, Mary Ann Wallace (nee Wiles) is a widow in the 1911 census living with Arthur who born in 1903 (it is stated in the census) is her son. I am wondering if this is not her son and why he would be classed as her son (if that makes sense).

All are in the Ware/Gt Munden/Benington area.

Many thanks
Diane

We aren't allowed to divulge information from the 1911 census - due to copyright issues.

Hi

"Also in the 1901 census, Mary Ann Wallace (nee Wiles) is a widow in the 1911 census living with Arthur who born in 1903..."

Mary is not a widow in 1901. What are you trying to say?

Wyles is her maiden name, according to 1901 census?

Hi

The Wallace family you mention may very well be .............

George Wallace / Mary Ann Godfrey m1890 Hertford

Now having read your other threads, would you list the details from the documents you actually have? That would save duplication of effort and clarification of who we are looking for.

Death, September qtr 1903
Hertford district    vol 3a, page 309
Wallace, Peter

Birth, June qtr 1903
Hertford district     vol 3a, page 875
Wallace, Arthur William

So it looks like Arthur was born before his father died.

George Wallace / Mary Ann Godfrey m1890 Hertford

I'm not sure where George comes in?

Peter Wallace married Mary Wildes [sic, from GRO index], Jun qtr 1892 Ware 3a 573.  The birth of Edith May Wallace was registered in the same quarter, same district.

The 1911 census shows an Edith May Wallace, age 18, in Braintree (Essex).

A possibility?

The free index I'm using shows the Braintree girl as 17 - may correspond to a Stepney birth, Jun qtr 1894.
