REMINDER: New Zealand Militia, Volunteers and Armed Constabulary 1863 – 1871
Join David Verran and John Binsley at the official launch of this new database.


The Armed Constabulary of New Zealand covers the period from 1867 - 1871 and lists 3,270 names, including members of the Native (Māori) Constabulary.

The Militia and Volunteers lists 12,709 names, including members of the Native (Māori) Contingent.

John Binsley, long time researcher in New Zealand military history, armed constabulary and militia and David Verran, from Auckland Libraries, share their collective knowledge on this period of history.

Speaker biosJohn Binsley is a long time researcher in New Zealand military history, armed constabulary and militia.

David Verran is the Team Leader in the Central Auckland Research Centre at Auckland Libraries, local historian and author.
