Annie Verdon
« on: Monday 11 March 13 14:06 GMT (UK) »
Hiya

Can anyone help me find an Annie Verdon who I have been told by family was french.

She had 4 children of which the father was Edward Chater 1835 – 1908 from Warwickshire, Fenny Compton
Edward Verdon Chater  1867 – 1869
Annie Sarah Chater  1868  Poplar, London  – ?
Alfred Thomas Chater 1869 – 1869
Emma Emily Chater 1870  Poplar, London – 1956

It doesn't look like Annie married Edward as Edward married a Louise in 1888 and was described as bachelor.  I can find Annie's two surviving daughters living with Edward and then later with Louise but cannot find anything on Annie for any dates.

I am wondering if Annie died as both of her two sons died in 1869 but I don't know what of.

Can anyone help please?

Are they together on a census at all in 1871?

That must be the 2 girls keyboard as the lady they are with is the Louisa who married Edward.
There's an Edward in hospital in 1881  :-\

Edward and "Anne" Chater were of 4 Peabody Place, Lion St, Poplar when they baptised Edward Verdon Chater (b 8 May 1867) and Annie Sarah Chater (b 24 May 1868) at All Saints, Poplar on 3 July 1868.

Hiya, Thanks for the quick replies.

yes, Edward the father was in hospital in 1881, but I don't know what for, and the two sisters were looked after by Louise who was then their housekeeper.

The other two boys Annie had both died in 1869 and Emma was born in 1870.

I can't see an obvious death for Annie under either name.

Were they all together as a family in 1871 when the girls were little or not found that yet?

I can find Annie's two surviving daughters living with Edward and then later with Louise

Do you mean they're with Edward in 1871 before the 1881 when they've been found with Louise?  Please can you give us the 1871 details?

Emma's school admission record gives her birthdate as 26 November 1870 - which makes me think mother and daughter's names may have been transposed on this baptism record:

Baptism, St Leonard, Bromley

11 Dec 1870

Ann [sic] CHATER, born 26 November 1870, daughter of Edward (labourer) and Emma Emily [sic], of Bromley.
