Also just to complicate it even further Louise was born as Louise Taylor abt 1846 Lingfield, Surrey, England and her father was James Taylor  She got married to a Comber of which I have no details about but do know she was married before marrying Edward.

She died in June 1891 in Poplar, London, England after months of illness but not sure what the illness was.  This is from a family bible / letters.

I can't understand why the family bibles / letters mention little if anything about Annie as it is quite detailed but it was Annie the daughter and her husband Patrick who wrote the letters to each other that I have copies of.

The plot thickens with the marriages if Louisa was Louisa Taylor - did he somehow marry her twice or just a coincidence with the names??

To recap these are all Edward Chater marriages with father Thomas Chater either down as a blacksmith or deceased.
1882 Louisa Taylor - father James
1888 Louisa Comber - father James
1899 Sarah Ann Wilkinson

We know Louisa was a Comber in 1881 when she is with the girls but I can't see a marriage for a Louisa Taylor to Comber  :-\

Louise was originally a Taylor and I'm pretty sure her father was called James.
She was definately married to Comber and he died levaing her a widow.
I think she kept the name Comber and this shows in 1881 cencus.
It was definately the same woman who married Edward as Annie the daughter was very fond of her and wrote about her a lot as the two women seemed to spend a ot of time together.
They married in 1888.  Annie the daughter called her Ma Lou.

I don't know much about Edward's parents but do know that his father was a blacksmith from the birth certificate.  I think his father died in 1862

tell me about it!!!!!
and still no sign of Annie - maybe she was in prison as I see there is a workhouse reference.
I think it is Annie P Verdon that is her fullish name, don't know if that helps at all.

I'm trying to find Louisa back through to see if she is with a Mr Comber but can't find her either in 1871.

1851/1861 she is with family father James as you said Louisa Taylor.
1881 with Edwards girls as we know and married Louisa Comber (but no hubby with her)
1891 married to Edward with younger Annie then she dies.

1871 is a black hole with all of them.  I'm going to the library later so will have a look on the system there in case they pop up.

A letter from daughter Annie to cousin Sara says that Ma Louise is visitng her late husbands mother in Sufold - Suffolk?  This was sometime in May 1889 but unfortunately it doesn't give name of either.  It also mentions that Ma Louise was ill and was going for a rest.
