Thanks LadyHawke - at least its one more to cross off and that always helps!   ;D

Mili and all that have replied - thank you ever so much for the help on this.
I can't see a way to thank on this site so a plain old message will have to suffice  :)

Even if those found and dismmised as incorrect well it crosses out one more possiblility and its one less which can only be a good thing with this lot.

I wonder where they all were in 1871, funny how all are missing including Annie, the daughters, Edward, Louise and her husband.
Maybe they all went on holiday together somewhere, maybe france   ;D
I know I feel like having one after dealing with this lot!!!

Didn't find much else at the library but there was a Frederick and Louisa Comber in 1871 Kensington.
He was 23 she was 25 and a laundress.  Wasn't that her occupation on one of the census we have? * Yes in 1891 she was a laundress.
Her birthplace was given as East Grinstead so  :-\

Plus still can't find a marriage for her to a Comber.
I wonder you know if she did marry Edward twice, marriage certs don't lie do they, and she didn't marry a Mr Comber at all.  She could have lived with one and went by the name Louisa Comber.  Where is he in 1881 if she isn't a widow and when did he die  ???

She does however put herself as a widow when they marry in 1888 so there must have been a Mr Comber otherwise the first marriage to Edward would still stand and there would be no need to marry him again!

Don't mind me I'm just thinking aloud  ;D
Must find that Frederick Comber marriage if only to rule that couple out.

Family seach has a Louisa Taylor Edward Chart Comber marriage 11 July 1864 but that's in East Grinstead.
Christening for Edward Chart Comber 14 June 1846 Nuthurst Sussex parents John and Eliza.

But Edward isn't Frederick so will see if can find him in 1871 with Louisa.

Family search has a
Louisa Taylor
Edward Chart Comber marriage 11 July 1864 but that's in East Grinstead.
Christening for Edward Chart Comber 14 June 1846 Nuthurst Sussex parents John and Eliza.

details taken from here http://www.mandywillard.co.uk/surnames/comber/john_1816.htm

Edward Chart Comber was born on 16 April and baptised on 14 June 1846 in Nuthurst.
He died before 1901.  He was 4 years old when the 1851 census was recorded.

Edward married Louisa Taylor on 11 July 1864 in East Grinstead.
The witnesses to the marriage were John Payne and Jane Taylor.

Louisa was born about 1847 and was the daughter of James Taylor a labourer

Louisa has probably been found in 1861 by someone helping me .
This looks like Louisa with her parents in 1861

Name: Louisa Taylor
Age: 15, Birth Year: abt 1846
Father's Name: James Taylor, Mother's name: Elizabeth Taylor
Gender: Female, Where born: Lingfield, Surrey, England
East Grinstead, Sussex,England
Household Members: James Taylor 59, Elizabeth Taylor 56, Charles Taylor 17, Louisa Taylor 15, Maria Taylor 20

Interestingly there are Combers on the same page
Name: William Comber, Age: 42 abt 1819, born in East Grinstead, Sussex, England
Spouse's Name: Elizabeth Comber
Household members: William Comber 42, Elizabeth Comber 40, Charles Comber 12, Emily Comber 9, George Comber 7, Eliza Comber 2, Thomas Ellis 46

Maybe she maried one of these?
This is pure guesswork on the Combers but it does look like her with her parents

This is the one I found at the library for 1871.  Living Kensington with couple of lodgers.

Frederick Comber 23 b Hersham Sussex labourer
Louisa Comber 25 b East Grinstead Sussex laundress

That aside would any birth certificates for the children help do you think?  Might give a scrap of useful info about Annie like a middle name or something else to go on  :-\

I've had a look at Emma's birth certificate and it just says Annie Verdon as mother but nothing else about her.
Somewhere I found a record that says Annie P Verdon.  I shall have a look where!

Does it say Annie Verdon or Annie Chater formerly Verdon?

At what address was Emma born? Given the proximity of the birth (late 1870) to the 1871 census, it may be worth searching for that address in 1871 just in case they are there disguised under a mistranscription.
