I'm wondering how I can confirm that the John and Anne Verdon in 1861 is my Annie / Anne.

Yes the mariner job for John could mean he was away - maybe there is a sea pouch for him or some sort of records for his work at sea. But he could also have been working at a harbour and not neccessary been out at sea.

I've tried looking at google maps to see how close the two addresses mentioned earlier are to each other but google isn't really linking them as being very close and doesnt like the st leonards road address.

Rogers/Chater household - 2 St Leonards Cot[tages?], St Leonards Road, Bromley: RG9/301/41/1.
Seal and Verdon households - 3 Nelson St West, Bromley: RG9/302/114/44.

I'm not sure what my next step is to confirm this and how to confirm / rule out that this Annie is or isnt the mother of the 4 children with edward.

There is also this but possibly a bit old for my Annie?

This is probably a reference to East London Cemetery.

The burial book is that of St George in the East infirmary.

Yes I agree it's tricky to know how to confirm she is the same Annie  :-\  She doesn't seem to go by the name Annie before does she nor is there a letter P in evidence - did you find where the middle P evidence came from by the way?

Have we got her signature anywhere to compare?  The marriage certificate to John is presumably the only one.  Hmmm.

Would be really disappointing if it wasn't her after finding such a likely candidate.

Name: Jno. T...Nes Verdin
Gender: Male
Burial Date:
Burial Place:
Death Date: 11 Aug 1882
Death Place: Merchant Marine, At Sea, Great Britain
Age: 2
Birth Date: 1880

Just looking for deaths and found this vague one.  Don't think age 2 can be right for a merchant marine.  T...Nes (clutching at straws) could be James.

There is a merchant navy record for a John Verdon born Enfield - aged 23 in the record which is from 1856. Unfortunately it only gives brief and barely decipherable details of a homebound voyage to London in 1856, and no more.

The GRO Marine Death Index for 1883 has a death for Jose Tavares Verdin of the vessel Hansa, died at sea aged 2. Perhaps that is what the above entry relates to? There are other infant deaths in the index - perhaps family members travelled too on some of these ships.
