Ann Elizabeth Tuggy
« on: Wednesday 13 March 13 16:20 GMT (UK) »
Bear with me, I'm new to this.
Am looking for any information on Ann Elizabeth Tuggy, born 1842 to Sarah Tuggy & married Edward Smith in 1866 in Reading. On census reports she is variously named as Annie, Hannah & Elizabeth. At the birth of a child in 1876, she gives her maiden name as Boasley! A witness at the wedding was William Bosley. I wondered if she was an illegitimate child of Sarah Tuggy who then married Adam Bosley, but have seen discussions which suggest it isn't right.
Any ideas please?

Interesting.  I wonder had she been married before - have you got the marriage certificate with her as spinster on it - and fathers name?

I don't see a Tuggy birth (wonderful name) in 1842, there is an Ann Bosley born Newbury 1843.

yes, sometimes Tilehurst, sometimes Reading.
Marriage certificate says spinster, & no father recorded!

Welcome Melfordgal :)

Do you have her in censuses before marriage or only after marriage?

Does your Ann/Hannah use Tilehurst as a birthplace in confirmed census sightings of her?

The daughter of Adam Bosley and Sarah of the right sort of age seems to be Hannah (9 b Tilehurst in 1851 census) - possible birth reg for her is as Hannah Bosley, Jun qtr 1842 Bradfield.

What was the argument against her being the daughter of Sarah who marries Adam Bosley? I see FreeBMD has the name of the spouse down as Lucy Tuggey but http://www.berkshirebmd.org.uk/marriages.php
has it as Sarah.

Edit: Just opened the little envelope on FreeBMD!

Can't find her on census before marriage. After marriage, she is Annie born Tilehurst in1871,
Elizabeth born Reading 1881, Hannah born Reading in1891, Hannah born Reading in 1901 & 1911.
I have considered that these may be different women but can't find any relevant death or marriage records.
I read on another chat forum that Adam Bosley married Catherine Sarah Herbert.
It also looks like Hannah Bosley has a relevant birth record as Bosley.
I also had reason to think there was a Bosley connection because Elizabeth's (nee Bosley, who I think is Hannah/Ann Tuggy) son married Emma Bosley's (? a sister of half sister) daughter.
Confused yet?? I am.
