Michael Connolly was transported to N.S.W.from Ireland in 1829 for highway robbery. He was trialed in Dublin City on the 5th. November 1828 with his brother in-law Patrick Dodd. Michael was sent to Norfolk Island, what I am trying to find out is why was he sent there.

Many thanks,

Sometimes the Norfolk Island Museum can be helpful with little snippets of some convicts. Could be worth dropping them a email and seeing if they have anything on your fella.

Michael's ticket of leave dated 27 Jan 1847 states that he was tried at the Supreme Court, Sydney on 18 Feb 1832 and sentenced to 21 years at Norfolk Island.

Debra would that be the right ticket of leave if Michael died in 1844  :-\

There was a Michael CONNELL arriving on the 1827 voyage of the Guildford  :) as per NSW SRO

Re the burial index for a Michael CONNELL, aged 52....  perhaps that would be for the chap mentioned in the following two cuttings from Trove ?  The reference is not for a death certificate, as civil registrations for deaths did not commence in NSW until 1856.
