Sidney Skeates
« on: Saturday 16 March 13 13:09 GMT (UK) »
Hiya, I'm trying to find out more about Sidney Skeates who was the father of my late father in law Ronald Douglas Brown b1931, London.

Sidney Skeates and Catherine Brown never married but had at least three boys, of which where all given Catherine's surname at birth but all took on the Skeates surname at a later date.
One is still alive which is why I've not put details of the other children here.

All I know about Sidney is that he was from Hammersmith and was a Publican.

At some point the Ronald lived with his aunt when he was evacuated from London.

I know Sidney had at least two sisters which Ron called Aunt Cissy and Aunt Clary of which I have photos but not much else.

Can anyone help me find Sidney please.

Hi Millie
The boys were all born in Hammersmith and St Pancras area and were brought up in Wandsworth which i think is pretty much the same area although im not a Londoner!

It doesn't look like he married Catherine Brown.

His son Ronald said his dad was from the same area as he was but didn't know exactly where.

No me neither!

Cissy and Clary - would they go back as far as 1911 do you think?  Might be able to find them together as children if so.

We know he was a publican in the same area.
Are there records to search for this?

There's a Cecelia Mary born 1907 she could be Cissy but in Brentford (looking for Skeates births either side of Sidney 1903 IF that is the right one)

The thing is I'm not convinced he was born in London as neither Cissy or Clary lived in London as Ron remembers being evacuated there and this brother John (deceased) says he didn't think they were.

Theres no proof to say where Sidney was from even though he definately lived in the area as he was a publican in the East end.

Hammersmith is in west London (north of the river).

Wandsworth is in south-west London (south of the river).

Are you saying he spent time in the East End as well?
